About Helen

Helen Houston

Helen Houston has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Grand Valley State University. Ms.Houston was an intern with WOOD TV 8 News and became employed as an associate producer for the morning show. As associate producer, she worked the overnight shift,  writing scripts, and delivering live news updates.

In 2002, Helen became certified as a  Michigan State Department of Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) counselor.  She was promoted to executive director of a small non-profit and taught first-time homebuyer classes to prospective home buyers.

Mrs. Houston moved to  Staten Island, New York, in 2004, where she worked as a senior housing specialist for Hospitality House. As a housing specialist, Helen helped homeless families secure permanent housing.

Helen has more than ten years of experience working with individuals with special needs and is currently working with adults ages 18 to 26 as a job coach for the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD).

Mrs. Houston has been a certified nursing assistant for over 18 years and has worked in healthcare facilities with older adults. Helen completed a Patient Advocacy certification (Summa Cum Laude) from Eastern Gateway Community College, in 2019.

Mrs. Houston has 20 years of experience working with underserved and historically neglected populations.

In 2023, Helen became a member of Lakeshore Cinergy3 film company, where she continues to use her background in writing, media, art, medicine, and special education to spread awareness and present solutions for society’s problems.
